If You Have a Problem...

Use this problem solving protocol to address the story, understand all voices, and work together towards addressing the matter.

The purpose of this protocol to address conflict that may develop in a team environment or time of change.

Guiding Questions

To begin, start by identifying the issue. What comes up when we apply the equity lens? How does the issue reflect our core values/beliefs/vision?

2. Stakeholders: who does this involve? Who else might need to be invited?

3. Root Causes (Interests? Positions?): What’s underneath what’s being said? What can be done (or who could help you) to reframe positions into interests? Determine what is in your control, and what is out of your control.

4. Desired Outcome(s): short-term? Long-term impact?

5. Possible Solutions: what will help solve the problem now? And how will this impact your future planning/thinking (being proactive)?

6. Possible Obstacles: what or who might impede your possible solutions?

7. Possible Ramifications: what might be some unintended consequences?

8. Solution and Next Steps.
